Vertical drama in France: platforms and players
Two French-made apps
France now has its own native vertical-drama apps. Storyshort (by the ex-ChefClub team, Adrien Cottinaud and Alexandre Perrin) was the first. Sweetz followed as the second, launched in September 2026 by the French AI studio Nation (Hugo Brisbois) and app publisher Kovalee, with about €1.1M in funding and backers including M6 Group and production groups TOG, Duo Productions and AT Prod. Sweetz offers French-language titles such as “Double Faute à Barcelone”, “Idolz” and “Virus à bord”. (Sources: Advanced Television, C21Media.)
Public and private TV join in
Traditional French television is testing the format too: France TV Slash released “P*tain de soirée”, a natively-written vertical series by Roman Doduik (20 episodes), while TF1 launched a fully AI-generated vertical series, “Skibidi Exfruit”. Production groups are moving as well — Banijay produces for ReelShort, and Mediawan is investing in vertical animation. (Source: verticaldrama.fr.)
A recognized market
France is described as one of the three pillars of the European creator economy, alongside Germany and the UK. At the 2025 Festival de la Fiction in La Rochelle, the head of the CNC, Gaëtan Bruel, cited micro-dramas in the debate on the future of fiction. (Source: micro-dramas.fr.)
